Day 13 - Jackson to Sheridan, Montana

We had pleasant temperatures today with minimal headwind under overcast skies as we traveled from Jackson over two passes to get into Dillon, MT. We reached 7,400 ft on Big Hole Pass, our first ascent of the day, marking our highest point so far on the journey. After our two morning climbs, we enjoyed absolutely amazing downhill rides spanning over 5 miles each. The roads are in such great shape; the downhills were epic. Upon reaching Dillon, we had some lunch and then continued "cross country" to Sheridan, our final destination. We found ourselves on a nerve-racking highway with no shoulder and then on about 17 miles of dirt roads that were at times more like cattle trails! It was beautiful but very challenging, to say the least. On a positive note, we spotted a small herd of Prong Horn antelope on the range as we rode the dirt! Absolutely beautiful part of the world. They call it Big Sky for a reason!

By the numbers: today brought us 81.5 miles closer to New York. We climbed 3,200 feet. We are 939.7 miles (23%) into this journey and have climbed over 42,000 feet (36%). We hope to reach the 1,000-mile mark tomorrow, and with tomorrow's ride, we should get very close to the west gate of Yellowstone, which we aim to enter by midday on Monday!
