A very small town to start and a very small town to finish today. About 80 miles of the route done. Puts us at about 2,175 miles complete and about 1,850 miles left to Long Island. Over 90,000 feet climbed during our 30 days on the road and less than 30,000 feet to go! Less climbing usually means more distance each day as long as the wind and heat don’t get too intense!

Every day has its challenges and surprises, good and bad. Today we started out with a flat tire on Jim’s bike even before the first pedal. This delayed the start of the ride due to a need to buy some spare tubes and make the repair. Then, literally 3.5 miles in to the ride, Jim hit a big nail! Another repair ensued! With this behind us, we had lots of lakes, corn fields, gentle rolling farm land, too many hog farms to count, a hard fast moving rain storm and a nice lunch thrown in! Off the bikes at about 4:30 pm. Day is done. Clean up, rest and repeat! Two days left until our rest day in Minneapolis. Let’s do this!

Day 53 Rhinebeck to Holmes

Very familiar trails today heading south toward our endpoint at Bridgeport, CT where we ride a car ferry back to Long Island. 61 miles mostly on paved and some unpaved bike trails with pretty scenery
